How Sedation Dentistry Can Benefit You

Our Sedation Dentistry Options

oral sedation

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a form of dental anesthesia that involves prescribed medications that are taken by mouth. In most cases, oral sedation is taken an hour before your treatment. Depending on a variety of factors, patients may experience anything from a mild reduction in anxiety to full sedation. In most instances, oral sedation requires patients to arrange transportation to and from the dental office.

nitrous oxide sedation

Nitrous Oxide

Often referred to as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a sedation dentistry option that is inhaled via a nasal mask. Nitrous sedation often makes patients feel excessively drowsy, though in most instances they will remain conscious and responsive throughout the duration of their treatment. The effects of nitrous sedation wear off quickly, allowing patients to drive themselves home in most instances.

IV dental sedation

IV Sedation

IV sedation is the most potent dental anesthesia option we provide, and often results in patients entering a sleep-like state during their procedure. Many patients that receive IV sedation end up forgetting parts or the entirety of their treatment. For this reason, IV sedation is often the preferred choice for patients that have severe anxiety, and/or those that require more involved treatments and surgeries. In most cases, patients that receive IV sedation will need to arrange transportation after their procedure.

PNG of General Anesthesia

General Anesthesia

During general anesthesia, a patient’s vital signs are closely monitored, including their heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing. The anesthesiologist is responsible for administering the anesthesia carefully controls the level of sedation to ensure that the patient remains unconscious and pain-free while also maintaining their safety and wellbeing.
